When the Romans found pieces of marble that were imperfect, they put wax in the holes.  Wax, in Latin, is cera.  When they found a perfect piece of marble, it was called sine cera, or without wax, whence comes the word sincere.

Lurking in the background of all of this energy and angst is the notion that something is wrong when we place so much importance on a president.  Is it really in the power of the president to create jobs or turn around the largest economy in the world?  Is it really the president we should look to defend human life?  Is the body we should look to put us on a path to fiscal renewal residing in 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue?  No, no, and no.  The Framers were wise when they erected the structure of our Constitution and endowed Congress with sole legislative power.  They were far-sighted when they gave Congress the power to initiate Constitutional reforms.  They understand why the judicial branch was to be the “least dangerous branch” and even allowed for a unified Congress to remove the President from the legislative picture by veto override.  What we need is a unified, conservative Congress.  Such a Congress will nullify the excesses of the Presidency whether that office is occupied by the current Chicago-style politician or the urbane, yet suspect, Romney.

Can Conservatives occupy Congress?

You betcha.  Especially with the help of Mrs. Palin.

However, if you ask those atheists they will deny they are mourning in any real sense of the word, just as they deny meaning to the entire world.   All that happened in their view was that an accidental collection of particles that happened to be formed as a man and named Hitchens disassociated and passed into the eternally writhing mass of matter, which is the only atheistic reality.  What happened was no more than the belts and wires and plugs of a car’s engine yielding to time and matter’s inexorable claims.  Thus, Hitchens, who himself bemoaned the fact that his ”transmission belts” which powered his hands were fading, deserves no more than the decay and deterioration that his god, matter, promises.  Rust in Peace, Mr. Hitchens.   

P.S. As a Catholic I cannot conclude this way.  Perhaps the humble woman he sought to pull down even farther into dirt, Mother Teresa, came to him in his last excruciating minutes and offered him the solace of Christ Whose suffering exceeded the weight of the world, past, present and future.

But because we are human, we are sad that you declined to run. We are sad because you held such promise for reform for us. We are sad because we won’t now see the triumph of “you betcha” in the presidential debates. We won’t now see and hear the beautiful woman from Alaska tell it like it is while the smooth smoker from Chicago tells it like it aint. We won’t now see a daughter of the Pilgrims remind us who we are in the face of those who want to make us something we are not. We are sad dear Governor. Surely you understand.

The others, while excellent in certain respects, don’t hold a moose’s tail to you. You know that. They know that. The president knows that.
